The art of drawing with a pen on silk using painting techniques is the beauty of this silk Kalamkari. The base is black with painted designs in deep Carnelian Red . Pure silk checks with thin gold lines form the front and sleeves. The sleeves were embroidered in vermillion , chilly red , bits of fuchsia and ivory with traditional motifs from the village tribes. The Khun borders line the mandarin collar and sleeve edges. The motifs are mostly inspired by nature and also ancient folk art and traditions. The dyes used are naturally extracted from various roots , leaves and barks…….seeped with buffalo milk and “Myrobalan”. As we work with this fabric and stud it with mirrors to highlight the motifs at the back we realize we have now grown to love the smell of buffalo milk on the natural kalamkari fabric . This is the most elegant and classy piece to style with almost all types of silk sarees with earthen shades. Its unique and a single piece handmade with all our love.

Most school uniforms were blue. Mine certainly was…..for most part of my growing girlie years it was blue all the time . So we always made a conscious effort to avoid buying blue when we went shopping. The daily school , sports and NCC uniforms were blue and blue all the way. We kept looking for that one Friday where we were allowed to wear colored clothes and do away with our blue ones. When it was time to make a career choice ………. clothes, design, fabrics and colors was the first option. It was complete love and passion for the weaves and yarns. If you choose to work with hand looms and handwoven yardage trust me there is no running away from blues and IKKATS . It’s the most versatile base color and can completely soak in many other combinations on it like a sponge. It allows for various permutations and combinations and is a must have in every woman’s wardrobe. When we speak of combinations on blue “TURMERIC YELLOW” !!!! shouts out my assistant at Svasa……..she read my mind like none other and we said yesssss TURMERIC YELLOW together. The yoke was a turmeric yellow base with tribal motifs embroidered on it in blood red, carrot orange and some bits of ivory white. A simple yet piercing set of colors that would go with most sarees. The YELLOW KANCHI VELDHARI saree was the best thing that ever happened to this blue ikkat blouse . BLUE for YELLOW and YELLOW for BLUE . There is so much blue in our lives now……. I Meant the color. Lockdown BLUES are another story altogether.

FOUR FLOWER is to Svasa what a Queen is to her Kingdom. This time it’s a black linen with deep pink and chilly red colored embroidery. There is so much written and said about FOUR FLOWER . This creation gave us our first success at blouses and there was no looking back post that. The bright pink shaded simple cotton kora saree and the FOUR FLOWER blouse to go with it is all you need to feel like a Queen . Refreshing and comforting this combination is our all time favourite…….we are pleased as PUNCH.

The precious Indigo plant has been a huge part of our designer dreams. The green leaves of the INDIGO plant when processed turns into a brilliant blue . This dyed fabric is the most beautiful base and can take on most primary and tertiary colors with ease. It creates a bold or a subtle statement depending on the mood we want to portray. A high back and simple “U” front neck . Our tiny , tiny mirrors are back to line the neck. The trims are in red, bright red and a mustard yellow. Zig zag needle stitches were worked on the trims by our girls to highlight the neckline . Dots of ivory threads were embedded in between the tiny mirror lines. The flower printed in white on INDIGO is lined with a tinge of gold kora. While working with handmade indigo printed with kora our factory has gold dust sprinkled all over as we get scissors happy and cut into this yardage. Its literally gold and glitter like blessings on us. To keep up with the vibrant mood for the week we have paired this with a pure coarse cotton Kandangi checks cotton saree from Karaikudi . As we put this look together we realized it was the person who wears it that creates the magic. As our model transformed this into the most explosive burst of colors. We are blown away
